Nothing's New Chat App Brings iMessage Support to Android
London-based tech company, Nothing, is set to bridge the messaging gap between Apple's iMessage and Android users with its latest offering, Nothing Chats.
Unlike third-party solutions, this messaging app, developed in collaboration with Sunbird Messaging, promises iMessage compatibility for Android users, specifically designed for Nothing Phone (2) owners.

Nothing Chats: iMessage on Android
Nothing Chats aims to provide Android users with the coveted iMessage features, including the distinctive blue chat bubbles, full support for group chat messaging, live typing indicators, and voice notes. Developed with user experience in mind, the app promises seamless integration into the iMessage ecosystem for Android users.
Exclusive Launch for Nothing Phone (2)
Starting November 17, Nothing Phone (2) owners can exclusively access Nothing Chats on the Google Play Store. The unique approach involves leveraging Sunbird's patented process, which requires users to create and validate an Apple ID on an Apple device, subsequently used to log into the Nothing Chats app.
How Nothing Chats Works
Sunbird's architecture facilitates direct message delivery between users without storing them on intermediary servers. To achieve iMessage integration, user iCloud credentials are temporarily stored in an encrypted database on a Mac Mini located in either the US or Europe, depending on the user's region. Nothing emphasizes that this information is securely deleted after two weeks of inactivity.
End-to-End Encryption
To address privacy concerns, Nothing Chats assures users that all messages are end-to-end encrypted. This means that neither Sunbird nor Nothing can access users' messages or shared files, aligning with Sunbird's privacy policy.
Nothing Chats Features and Future Plans
Currently in Beta, Nothing Chats offers blue bubble messaging, individual and group messaging, live typing indicators, full-resolution media sharing, and voice notes. While features like read receipts, message reactions, and replies are set to be included in future updates, the company encourages users to stay tuned for ongoing developments during the Beta phase.
Availability and Expansion Plans
The Nothing Chats app is set to launch on November 17, initially available to Nothing Phone (2) users in North America, the EU, and other European countries. However, the company has not disclosed plans for expansion to other regions or compatibility with older Nothing Phone (1) models. Notably, the app won't be available on the Google Play Store, remaining an exclusive offering from Nothing.
