PhonePe UPI Circle Launched in India: What Is It and How to Activate?

PhonePe has launched a new feature called UPI Circle, which simplifies the process of making payments for those within a user's trusted network, such as family and friends.

This initiative aims to broaden the accessibility of digital payment options to individuals who might not have their own bank accounts but are in need of using online payment methods. By generating a unique UPI ID through UPI Circle, dependents gain the ability to engage in secure online transactions without directly owning a bank account linked to the UPI system.

How Does It Work?

The approach PhonePe is taking with UPI Circle is centered around inclusivity and security in digital payments. A UPI account holder (primary user) can now effortlessly include family members or trusted individuals, termed secondary users, into their payment circle. This is done by utilizing UPI ID or QR codes for adding members and authorizing their transactions remotely.

The primary user is afforded full oversight over the circle's activities. This includes the capability to approve payment requests, monitor the expenses of secondary users, access detailed payment histories for each circle, and even remove access to the circle if necessary.

How to Activate PhonePe UPI Circle

Step 1: Open your PhonePe app, and you will find the UPI Circle option on the home page.

Step 2: To set up your UPI Circle and add secondary users, tap on 'Invite Secondary Contact'. You can invite them by scanning their QR code or entering their UPI ID manually.

Step 3: The invited users will receive a notification in their PhonePe app. They need to accept the invitation to join your UPI Circle.

Step 4: Once they've joined, secondary users can use the primary user's account as a payment option for transactions.
