Spotify Lossless Audio Playback Feature Launched For Premium Subscribers Across 50 Regions: How To Use It
Spotify has introduced lossless audio playback for its Premium subscribers, a feature first announced in February 2021. This high-fidelity sound option is now accessible in over 50 regions worldwide. While initially thought to be part of a pricier plan, it is included in the current Spotify Premium tier. However, users on the free, ad-supported version will not have access to this feature.
Subscribers will receive notifications within the Spotify app when lossless audio becomes available for their accounts. To activate this feature, users should tap their profile icon, navigate to Settings & Privacy, and then select Media Quality. Here, they can choose to enable lossless audio for Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads.

Lossless Audio Streaming for Spotify Premium Users
The rollout of lossless audio streaming is confirmed for select markets globally. Spotify Premium users must manually activate the Lossless mode on each device they use. Once enabled, a Lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing view or Connect Picker. The service provides custom settings for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads with options ranging from Low to Lossless quality.
Spotify advises using wired headphones or speakers with non-Bluetooth options like Spotify Connect for streaming lossless music over Wi-Fi. Bluetooth cannot transmit full lossless audio effectively. Due to larger file sizes, tracks may take longer to start but will play smoothly once cached.
Enhanced Audio Experience with FLAC Support
With the new Lossless mode, Spotify Premium subscribers can stream up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC audio. This offers clearer detail across much of Spotify's music library and is supported on mobile, desktop, tablet, and Spotify Connect devices from brands like Sony and Bose.

The compatibility of this feature will extend further by October to include devices such as Sonos and Amazon products. The rollout aims to cover more than 50 markets by that time.
Price Adjustments and Market Expansion
Spotify has recently increased its Premium plan prices in several markets. Despite these changes, countries like Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK are already benefiting from access to lossless audio streaming.
This development marks a significant enhancement for Spotify Premium users seeking superior sound quality without additional costs beyond their existing subscription tier.
