Spotify Reduces Standard and Student Plan Prices in India; Premium Lite Plan Apparently Removed

Spotify seems to have quietly removed its Premium Lite subscription plan in India.

As first spotted by Gadgets 360, the plan has disappeared from both Spotify’s website and the mobile app, leaving only the Standard, Student, and Platinum tiers visible right now.

Spotify Reduces Standard and Student Plan Prices in India

Spotify hasn’t officially announced anything yet, so it’s still unclear whether the plan has been permanently discontinued or temporarily removed.

Either way, the timing is interesting because Premium Lite was introduced only a few months ago as Spotify’s cheapest paid plan in the country.

The Standard Plan Is Now Much Cheaper

At the same time, Spotify has also changed pricing for some of its remaining Premium plans.

The regular Spotify Premium Standard plan now starts at ₹99 for the first three months and then moves to ₹139 per month after that. Earlier, the same plan used to cost ₹199 monthly.

That new ₹139 pricing is important because it’s exactly what Spotify Premium Lite used to cost.

So instead of maintaining a separate lower-tier subscription with fewer features, Spotify may simply be pushing users toward the standard Premium experience now.

The Student plan has also become cheaper. It now costs ₹69 per month instead of ₹99.

What Made Premium Lite Different?

Premium Lite was basically designed for users who wanted an ad-free Spotify experience without paying for the full Premium package.

The tradeoff was audio quality and some missing features. While regular Premium supports streaming up to 320kbps, Lite users were capped at lower audio quality. It was also limited to a single account.

For casual listeners, though, it was still a decent middle ground between the free plan and the more expensive subscriptions.

That’s why its sudden disappearance feels a bit surprising.

Existing Users Are Still in Limbo

Right now, Spotify hasn’t clarified what happens to users already subscribed to Premium Lite.

There’s no official word yet on whether those users will continue on the same plan, get shifted automatically to Standard, or lose access when their billing cycle ends.

Until Spotify comments publicly, there’s still some uncertainty around the transition.

Spotify Seems to Be Simplifying Its Plans

From the outside, this looks less like a price hike story and more like Spotify simplifying its subscription lineup in India.

By reducing the price of Standard to ₹139, the company has essentially made the Lite plan redundant. Users now get higher audio quality and full Premium benefits at almost the same pricing.

And honestly, for most users, that probably makes more sense than maintaining another in-between subscription tier.
