Spotify Wrapped, the eagerly awaited annual roundup, returns in 2023 with exciting updates for its 574 million users. Alongside the familiar top five songs, artists, and genres, Spotify introduces the innovative "Sound Town" feature. This feature connects users with a city worldwide that shares the most similar music taste based on their 2023 listening habits.

On the third slide of the Spotify Wrapped, users are presented with a city pinpointed on the map, offering a unique insight into the global resonance of their music preferences. The feature suggests three artists loved by both the user and the average listener in that city.

"Me in 2023" Character Feature

Similar to last year's "music personality," the "me in 2023" feature analyzes listening habits and assigns users one of 12 characters crafted by Spotify. These characters, such as the "Hypnotist" or "Hunter," reflect different music consumption behaviors. For instance, the "Hypnotist" enjoys playing entire tracks, while the "Hunter" tends to skip songs more frequently than others.

Deeper Insights into Listening Habits

Spotify Wrapped now provides more comprehensive insights into users' music journeys throughout the year. Users can track which months they spent the most time listening to each of their top five artists, offering a timeline of evolving music preferences. This feature unveils the dynamics of how certain artists made it to the year-end roundup, providing a nuanced understanding of changing tastes over time.

Enhanced Metrics and Wrapped Experience

Spotify Wrapped for 2023 is accessible both through the app and the web at Spotify.com/Wrapped. The new "sound town" and "me in 2023" features add a playful element to the annual tradition, distinguishing it from competitors like Apple Music Replay and YouTube Music's Recap breakdowns. Moreover, the top five genres story receives a visual makeover, representing each genre as ingredients in a sandwich.

Wrapped Listening Parties and AI DJ Commentary

To engage users further, Spotify is introducing Wrapped listening parties, which will allow select artists like Ava Max, Chelsea Cutler, and JVKE to interact with fans, stream top tracks, and sell merchandise. Additionally, Spotify's AI DJ will guide users through their Wrapped stats, offering commentary on favorite artists, genres, and songs. This interactive experience will be available for the first week of accessing 2023 Wrapped data.
