Telegram Set to Introduce Stories in the Upcoming Month

Telegram has announced that it will be launching the Stories feature at the beginning of July, allowing users to share temporary posts with their contacts. The CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, made the announcement on his official channel, stating that Stories was a highly requested feature by users, accounting for more than half of all feature requests. Despite initial hesitation, the team decided to implement the feature due to its popularity.

Compact User Interface

Similar to other apps, Stories will be located at the top of the Telegram app. However, there is a significant difference in that it will be displayed in a compact user interface, which users can expand at their discretion to view stories.

This design caters to users who may not be fond of stories and prefer not to see them every time they open the app. Durov emphasized that this approach ensures easy accessibility without occupying valuable space.

Flexible Duration and Permanent Stories

Users will have the flexibility to set the duration of their Stories, which can last for 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours. Additionally, there will be an option to display stories permanently, similar to Instagram's Highlights feature. Other users can access permanent stories by visiting the profile of the person who posted them.

Durov explained, "The ability to save your stories to the profile page will make Telegram profiles more informative and colorful. It allows users to explore more content from their closest contacts and discover additional information about users they connect with in groups or channel comments."

Enhanced Story Creation

When posting a story, users can utilize the dual camera mode, enabling them to capture photos and videos simultaneously using both the front and rear cameras. They can add captions, URLs, tag people, and utilize photo and video editing tools to provide context to their stories.

Privacy Settings

To maintain privacy, users can set their story viewing preferences. The options include Everyone, only contacts (with exceptions), a select few contacts, or a list of Close Friends. Users can also hide stories from specific contacts whose stories they do not wish to see. These hidden stories will be moved to a separate Hidden section and will not be visible in the main stories area.

Release & Availability

Currently in the final testing phase, Telegram Stories will be available to all users starting in early July.
