Threads Now Allows You to Delete Your Account Without Affecting Your Instagram: Here’s How
In a recent update, Meta has responded to user feedback and lifted a significant restriction on its text-oriented service, Threads. Initially launched in July, Threads faced backlash as users discovered that deleting the Threads account was tied to deleting their entire Instagram account.
Instagram Head, Adam Mosseri, announced this restriction has now been removed, allowing Threads users to delete their profiles independently without affecting their Instagram accounts.

Unlinking Threads and Instagram
The recent change addresses a major concern voiced by Threads users who were frustrated by the inability to sever ties between Threads and Instagram. Now, users can navigate to Settings > Account > Delete or Deactivate Profile to either temporarily suspend or permanently delete their Threads account, leaving their Instagram account untouched.

Managing Threads Visibility Across Meta Platforms
Beyond the account deletion feature, Meta has introduced another update related to Threads posts appearing on other Meta platforms, like Facebook. Users can now manage the visibility of Threads posts on Facebook by going to Settings > Privacy. However, it's important to note that this setting currently applies only to Facebook, and Threads posts will continue to display on Instagram.
Threads' Evolution and User Growth
Meta's response to the user feedback comes after the company acknowledged the entanglement issue a day after Threads' launch. With Threads' user growth initially surging to 100 million in five days and estimated to be around 140 million presently, Meta has been actively working on refining the user experience.
Ongoing Improvements
In addition to the recent changes, Threads users can now better integrate their content across Facebook and Instagram, aligning with Meta's strategy of enhancing the interconnectedness of its platforms. Despite the positive updates, user feedback suggests a desire for more personalization options, date/time stamps for posts, and a hashtag feature, indicating that Meta may have more enhancements in the pipeline.
How to Delete Your Threads Account
Deleting a Threads account is now a straightforward process. In the Threads iOS or Android app, users can tap their profile icon, select the double-line icon at the top right, choose Account, and then proceed to Deactivate or Delete Profile. The final step involves logging in to confirm identity and tapping the Delete Threads Profile button.
