Uber New Safety Tools In India: Record My Ride and Ambulance Assistance Features Explained
Uber has added two safety tools in India aimed at improving evidence collection and emergency response during rides. The company’s new 'Record My Ride’ feature lets drivers record encrypted in-cab video through the Uber app, while Ambulance Assistance connects users to medical help through Dial 4242 after a trip-related accident.
The update is significant because safety features in ride-hailing apps increasingly need to protect both riders and drivers without exposing private trip data. Uber said the video recording tool is designed for situations where a driver feels unsafe during an ongoing trip, using the driver’s own phone rather than separate hardware.

How Uber Record My Ride Works
According to Uber, videos captured through Record My Ride are encrypted within the app. The company said neither Uber nor the driver can view the recording by default. It becomes accessible only when the driver decides to attach it to a safety report, creating a controlled process for reviewing serious incidents.
This approach is meant to balance accountability with privacy. In-cab video can help establish what happened during a disputed or unsafe trip, but unrestricted access to such footage can raise surveillance concerns. Uber said the feature remains compliant with applicable laws and includes privacy safeguards around access.
Ambulance Assistance Added Through Dial 4242
Uber has also integrated Ambulance Assistance into its existing 24x7 Safety Line. The service, supported by medical logistics provider Dial 4242, is intended to help riders and drivers seek medical support quickly if an accident occurs during an Uber trip.
The company did not describe this as a replacement for local emergency services. Instead, the feature adds another in-app route to seek assistance when users may be under stress, injured, or unsure whom to contact after a crash. Faster access to help can be critical in the first few minutes after an incident.
The new tools add to Uber’s existing safety stack in India, which includes Audio Recording, Women Rider Preference, Helmet Selfie Verification and Seatbelt Reminders. For users, the practical change is clearer: the app is adding more ways to document incidents and escalate emergencies from within the trip experience itself.
