YouTube Shorts Gets an AI-Powered Video Generator in the Form of Veo 2
YouTube has introduced a major update to Dream Screen, its AI tool for creating unique backgrounds in Shorts. This enhancement, powered by Google DeepMind's latest video model, Veo 2, elevates the capabilities of YouTube Shorts. The integration of Veo 2 allows for more advanced features, significantly enhancing the creative process for content creators.
Veo 2 introduces standalone video generation to Dream Screen, as announced by Dina
Berrada, Director of Product for Generative AI Creation at YouTube. This new feature enables users to create independent video clips and seamlessly incorporate them into their Shorts. This development broadens the creative possibilities available to content creators.

Enhanced Video Creation with Veo 2
Berrada highlighted that this update caters to creators who need specific scenes but lack suitable footage. With Veo 2, users can generate video clips tailored to their vision by simply entering a text prompt. This feature facilitates dynamic storytelling and opens up new avenues for creativity.
Veo 2 significantly improves Dream Screen by producing high-quality videos across various subjects and styles. It enhances video rendering speed and realism, offering better physics and more accurate human movement. Users can also personalize their creations by selecting specific styles, lenses, or cinematic effects.
Utilising New Features in YouTube Shorts
To use these new features in YouTube Shorts, open the Shorts camera and select the Green Screen option followed by Dream Screen. Enter a prompt, choose an image, and apply it as your video background. Alternatively, tap "Add" to access the media picker, select "Create," enter a prompt, pick an image, tap "Create Video," and set the desired video length.
YouTube ensures transparency with SynthID watermarks on AI-generated content. These watermarks help viewers distinguish between human-created and AI-generated media. Currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, YouTube plans to expand these features globally soon.
