Indians can watch the Asia Cup and ICC World Cup 2023 matches for free online. Disney+ Hotstar has confirmed it will stream all the One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket matches on its platform without asking users to pay for any subscription.

Taking a cue from the immense success and record viewership of JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar has decided to offer free streaming of all cricket matches held during the Asia Cup and ICC World Cup 2023. Here's everything there's to know about the latest development.

Disney+ Hotstar To Stream All Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023 Cricket Matches

A new FICCI E&Y Report suggests the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Men's World Cup 2023 will reportedly be free to stream for Disney+ Hotstar users. Speaking about the development, the Head of Disney+ Hotstar, Sajith Sivanandan, said:

"Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue enhancing the viewer experience has allowed us to delight our audiences across the region. Making the Asia Cup and ICC Men's Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe, will help us grow the overall eco-system."

It is important to note that the cricket matches will be free to stream only on smartphones. It is not clear if Disney+ Hotstar will limit the resolution of the streaming video. However, even this restriction is identical to the one implemented by JioCinema.

Why Is Disney+ Hotstar Offering Free Streaming?

If users had to watch cricket tournaments and other sports, they were previously required to subscribe to the Premium plan or above. Subscription plans for streaming services that grant access to premium content on Disney+ Hotstar start at ₹299 per month.

Although the price of the subscription is relatively low compared to other countries, millions of subscribers look for free access. Moreover, Reliance Jio, which operates the Jio telecommunication company as well as the JioCinema streaming service, recorded over half a billion viewers for the Tata IPL 2023.

It seems apparent that Disney+ Hotstar is keen on replicating the same success and garnering viewership by sacrificing subscriptions. It appears the platform is confident of generating more revenue through advertising and other sources.
