WhatsApp for Android Testing Redesigned Floating Navigation Bar with New Meta AI Integration

WhatsApp is testing another Android interface change that could make Meta AI harder to miss inside the app. The latest beta build shows a redesigned bottom navigation bar with a more rounded, floating look and a dedicated place for Meta AI, moving it away from its current floating button treatment.

The change was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.38.10. It is not available to all users and appears to be at an early development stage. The test interface also shows Meta AI in more than one place, which suggests the final layout has not been locked yet.

WhatsApp Android Redesign Puts Meta AI in Focus

The most notable shift is the possible integration of Meta AI into the navigation bar. At present, many users see Meta AI as a floating shortcut above the compose button. Bringing it into the main navigation area would make the AI feature a core part of the app’s structure, alongside everyday sections such as chats, updates and calls.

The navigation bar itself also appears to be getting a visual refresh. The test design has softer edges, an oval shape and a more transparent background. It brings WhatsApp for Android closer to the design language already familiar to iPhone users, although the Android version does not appear to copy the iOS look completely.

What This Means for Users

For regular users, the change may not alter how messages are sent or received. Its importance lies in how WhatsApp is choosing to position AI inside the app. A permanent navigation entry would make Meta AI more visible and easier to access, but it may also raise concerns among users who prefer a simpler messaging interface.

There is no confirmed public rollout date for the redesigned navigation bar. WhatsApp often tests interface changes for weeks or longer before releasing them widely. Some beta features are also changed, delayed or dropped before reaching the stable version.

For now, the redesign should be treated as an early preview rather than a finished update. If WhatsApp proceeds with the change, Android users may see a cleaner floating navigation bar and a stronger Meta AI presence in the coming builds.
