WhatsApp Is Reportedly Bringing its View-Once Feature to Text Messages

WhatsApp is preparing more privacy tools for chats, including text messages that disappear after a single view. The messaging service already limits how photos, videos and audio clips can be seen once. Now similar control is planned for written texts, alongside another test feature called "spoiler messages" that hides content behind blur.

The new options come as Meta adjusts privacy strategies across its apps. End-to-end encryption has been removed from Instagram, yet WhatsApp is still adding controls that restrict how shared content is stored or viewed. These tools are aimed at users who want tighter protection for short, sensitive exchanges.

The report suggests WhatsApp will add a similar safeguard for text, turning some written messages into one-time items that disappear after they are opened once by the recipient.

From there, they could tap the option labelled "Send as view once" to convert that specific text into a single-view message.
