WhatsApp lets users add public group description in beta version
WhatsApp beta users get this most-awaited feature.
WhatsApp is rolling out many ways to enhance the overall user experience. In the latest move, the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has rolled out a new feature called Group Description to the beta users of Android and Windows Phone versions of the app. This feature has been spotted on the Android beta version 2.18.54 and Windows Phone beta version 2.18.28. There are claims that it will be rolled out to the iOS users soon.

Spotted initially by the fan site of WhatsApp WABetaInfo, the Group Description feature has been highly anticipated by the users, especially after the company implemented the chat invite links. For now, anyone with the group invite link can join the group to see the group info.
Group Description feature
If a user sets a group description and sends across an invite for a new member to join the group, then the members can read the description of the group before actually accepting the invite to join the group. It is said that the group description will be seen just above the ‘Join Group' button.
Limits who can edit the description
As of now, WhatsApp is letting is letting anyone in the group to edit the group description. With the implementation of this Group Description feature, the group admins can deny the members from editing the group info. The granular controls for the group admins is said to be called WhatsApp Privacy when it is officially rolled out.
Demote as Admin
The group admins have been getting many new features lately. A few months back, the Android users of WhatsApp received the Demote as Admin feature that lets a group admin take away the rights of another admin without actually removing the member from the group. We await more useful features for the groups to be rolled out soon.

Other Windows Phone app features
Apart from the Group Description feature, the Windows Phone beta users of WhatsApp have received many other new features such as Stickers and redesigned stickers notification icon. Notably, these features were not seen on the Android and iOS versions of the app till date. The beta version 2.18.24 of the Windows Phone app comes with the Live Location sharing feature too. We can expect the stable version of the app to include these features in the weeks to come.
