WhatsApp’s Latest Beta Lets You Add Instagram to Your Profile—Is Facebook Next?

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature in beta that will allow users to link their Instagram profiles directly to their WhatsApp accounts. This update aims to simplify how users share their social media presence with contacts, bringing WhatsApp closer in functionality to other Meta-owned platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

Currently, WhatsApp profiles display basic information such as a profile picture, name, bio, and phone number. With the upcoming change, users will have the option to add social media links, starting with Instagram. iOS users in the beta program are the first to receive this feature, while an Android rollout is expected soon.

Social Media Links Expand Beyond Business Accounts

Until now, only WhatsApp Business Accounts allowed users to add social media links to their profiles. Many personal account users have requested a similar feature, and Meta is now testing it in the beta version before a broader release. Users will have control over their privacy settings, deciding whether to display or hide the linked accounts.

Given Meta's ownership of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, this update could pave the way for Facebook profile linking in the future, making it easier for users to connect across different social media platforms.

Other Features in WhatsApp's Beta Rollout

WhatsApp has been rapidly expanding its features, adding more than just social media integration. Recent beta updates include:

  • Schedule Events in Private Chats - Allowing users to plan and set reminders directly within WhatsApp conversations.
  • View Once Media for Web Users - Bringing the temporary media-sharing feature to WhatsApp Web.
  • Camera Effects and Selfie Stickers - New visual enhancements to personalize messages.
  • Sticker Packs and Quick Reactions - Expanding the customization options for chats.

WhatsApp Expands Its UPI Payments Feature

WhatsApp is also making improvements to its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service, bringing it closer to competitors like Google Pay and PhonePe. Users will be able to send money using mobile numbers, simplifying digital transactions within the app.
