WhatsApp Introduces New Features: Tappable Reactions, Online Indicator in Groups, Calling Enhancements, More
WhatsApp has introduced several new features to enhance user experience in conversations, calls, and Channels. These updates include an online indicator in groups, tappable reactions, and the ability to set WhatsApp as the default app on iOS devices. The improvements aim to make interactions more seamless and efficient for users.
In group chats, users can now see how many members are online at any given moment. This real-time online indicator appears just below the group name, helping users know when others are available to chat. Additionally, a new notification setting called 'Notify for' allows users to choose between receiving notifications for all messages or only for highlights such as @mentions and replies.

Enhanced Chat Features
WhatsApp has also improved event management within the app. Users can create events not only in groups but also in individual conversations. New features include the ability to RSVP as 'maybe,' invite a plus one, add end dates and times for longer events, and pin events within a chat for easy access.
Tappable reactions have been introduced to make expressing emotions quicker and easier. Users can view others' reactions and tap on the desired one to send it instantly. For iPhone users, document scanning is now possible directly from WhatsApp by selecting 'Scan document' from the attachment tray.
Calling Enhancements
For video calls, iPhone users can now pinch to zoom during a call to get a closer look at their own or others' videos. Adding someone to an ongoing 1:1 call is simplified by tapping the call icon in a chat thread and selecting 'Add to call'. WhatsApp has also upgraded its technology for smoother video calls with better connection paths and HD quality upgrades.
The latest iOS update allows users to set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling app. To do this, navigate to Settings > Default Apps on your iPhone and select WhatsApp as the preferred option.
Updates Tab Improvements
The 'Updates' tab has received several enhancements as well. Channel admins can now record and share short video notes of up to 60 seconds with followers. Voice message transcripts are available for channel updates, providing written summaries when listening isn't possible.
Channel admins can also generate unique QR codes that link directly to their channels. This feature simplifies sharing channels with others and helps grow audiences more effectively. These updates reflect WhatsApp's commitment to improving user experience across its platform by introducing practical features that cater to diverse communication needs.
