WhatsApp Might Soon Let You Import Your Profile Photo From Facebook or Instagram
If you’ve ever had to manually download your profile picture from Facebook or Instagram just to use it on WhatsApp, that little ritual might be going away soon.
WhatsApp is now testing a feature that’ll let you import profile photos directly from your Meta-linked accounts like Facebook and Instagram, according to a new discovery by WABetaInfo. It’s a small but useful addition for those who want a consistent identity across apps without the hassle.

What’s the Feature All About?
This change was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.21.23). Once users update to this version, they’ll find the new import options under the profile section in WhatsApp settings.
Up until now, if you wanted to change your profile picture, you had to either:
- Take a new photo with your phone’s camera
- Choose one from your device’s gallery
- Set a custom avatar
- Or use an AI-generated image from Meta’s tools
Now, with this new beta, you’ll see two new options: one to fetch your Facebook profile photo and another for Instagram. It’s a small tweak, but one that makes changing your picture feel much more seamless—especially for users deeply plugged into Meta’s ecosystem.
How It Works
The feature isn’t entirely plug-and-play. To use it, you’ll likely need to link your WhatsApp account to Meta’s Accounts Center, which acts as the control panel for how your Meta-owned apps interact with one another.
Once linked, tapping on either Facebook or Instagram will automatically fetch the profile picture from the selected account and apply it to your WhatsApp profile. This is different from the old-school way of saving the image locally, then uploading it manually.
Is This a Privacy Concern?
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is opt-in and turned off by default. You’re in full control of whether you want your accounts linked or not. More importantly, the report also says this doesn’t impact end-to-end encryption, which is one of WhatsApp’s core privacy features.
So, while you’re linking platforms under the Meta umbrella, your chats, media, and calls on WhatsApp remain private.
Only Beta Testers for Now
Right now, this feature is only available to users in the Google Play Beta Program. There’s no word yet on when it’ll be released to the public, but based on how Meta typically rolls out updates, it could arrive in the stable version in the coming months.
