WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Review Status Privacy After Posting: Report

WhatsApp is testing a feature that shows which privacy settings apply to each status update. The option appears for some beta users on Android and iOS. It gives a clear summary of who should receive a status. This helps users check the audience without deleting and reposting a status update.

The feature is still limited to selected beta testers, and WhatsApp has not confirmed a full release date. However, it is expected to reach more users in the coming days. Testers can already see audience information directly from the status viewing screen, making privacy checks quicker and easier.

To use the new tool, users open the viewers’ sheet for a posted status update. This familiar screen lists every contact who has viewed the update. If the feature is available for you, an “Audience” option appears at the bottom or inside the overflow menu. Selecting it opens a privacy summary panel.

The first part of this “Audience” section explains which contacts can see the status. If everyone in the address book has access, the label shows “My contacts”. When some contacts are blocked from viewing, the label changes to “My contacts except” and shows those excluded names. Sharing with a smaller group appears as “Only share with”, alongside the selected contacts.

The next option in the same panel focuses on mentions included in a status update. Status posts can tag specific contacts, who then receive a notification when the update is shared. The new view lets users see every mentioned contact in one place. This gives a clearer picture of everyone directly involved.

The final control in the Audience section relates to sharing by other contacts. It shows whether viewers are allowed to share the status with their own audience, even if they are not mentioned. This sharing permission is disabled by default. Users can still enable it for selected posts and later confirm the choice inside the Audience menu.

According to Wabetainfo, Android and iOS beta testers are already trying these tools to verify their status audience. The feature aims to reduce mistakes when choosing viewers for personal or sensitive updates. By checking a short privacy summary after posting, users gain better control over who sees each WhatsApp status update.
