WhatsApp Reportedly Rolling Out Community-exclusive Events Feature for Group Chats

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that enables users to create events in group chats, expanding its functionality beyond communities.

This update allows for better collaboration and coordination within regular group chats, as users can now create events without being linked to a specific community. The feature permits users to input event details such as name, description, date, optional location, and whether a voice or video call is required.

Changes to the Paper-Clip Options

According to WABetaInfo, the update modifies the paper-clip options in WhatsApp. Previously, clicking on the paper-clip icon would display options to add an image, document, audio, contact, location, or poll. With the new update, an additional option to create an event will be available.

Once an event is created, group chat members can view and accept invitations while the creator can update event details as needed. Importantly, events are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and confidentiality for all participants. The feature is being rolled out in phases and is accessible to some users who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store.

Notification for Failed Media Uploads

In addition to the event creation feature, WhatsApp plans to notify users when their media uploads fail. This enhancement is part of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS and aims to inform users immediately if their media upload is paused or fails without needing to open the app.

Users will receive real-time updates on media upload status and will be notified if an upload is interrupted due to connectivity issues or switching apps. This improvement ensures a smoother file-sharing experience by keeping users informed about their media uploads and supports background app refresh for faster message loading and seamless media uploads even when the app is not actively open.

In conclusion, WhatsApp's new features aim to enhance user experience by allowing event creation in regular group chats and providing notifications for failed media uploads. These updates demonstrate the messaging app's ongoing efforts to improve its services for users.
