WhatsApp Reportedly Testing 'View Once' Text Messages for iPhone Users
WhatsApp is preparing to bring its “view once” privacy option to text messages on iPhone, expanding a feature that already works with photos, videos and voice notes. The change is still under internal development, so regular users and public beta testers may not see it yet.
The feature is designed for messages that should not remain in a chat after being read. Once available, iPhone users are expected to type a message, long-press the Send button and choose a “Send as view once” option before sending it.

How WhatsApp View Once Texts May Work
After the recipient opens the message, it will disappear from the conversation. The feature is expected to work in personal chats and group chats, but not in WhatsApp Channels, where messages are meant for broader public or community-style distribution.
Reports also indicate that recipients may not be able to copy, forward, share, screenshot or screen-record these messages. That would make the text version closer to WhatsApp’s existing view once media controls, although no privacy feature can fully stop someone from recording content using another device.
Why this Matters for Users in India
For Indian users, the feature could be useful for sharing short-lived details such as temporary codes, addresses, private notes or sensitive personal information. It may also reduce the need for awkward workarounds, such as writing text on an image and sending that image as view once media.
This is separate from another disappearing message feature seen earlier, which removes messages after a set time once they are read. The new option is simpler: the message can be opened once, then it disappears. WhatsApp has not announced a public rollout date, so users should wait for an official update through the App Store.
