Shocking! WhatsApp to soon share user data with Facebook
WhatsApp will soon share your data with Facebook.
Recently, WhatsApp submitted the Android beta version 2.18.57 to the Google Play Beta program. The update is not claimed to bring many new changes in terms of user experience. Shockingly, it is said to have brought about significant changes to the Terms of Service (ToS). What makes it shocking is that the purported ToS shows that WhatsApp will soon start the process of sharing the user data with Facebook.
According to WABetaInfo, the update tracker of WhatsApp that has managed to get hold of the latest Android beta version of the app, the instant messaging platform is not doing a good job at hiding the offensive Terms of Service. The website has posted the whole new ToS revealing that WhatsApp will soon start sharing the personal data of users with Facebook Companies.
It further notes that the information will be used only to provide services to WhatsApp. It remains unclear if it is an enhanced ad tracking or not. The new ToS confirms that none of the information you share on WhatsApp including your mobile number will be shown on Facebook or any other product of the company unless you actually choose to show it.
In addition to this, the new Terms of Service also states that sharing posts from the platforms like Facebook and Instagram on WhatsApp will be made easier. WhatsApp will work with the other products owned by Facebook in order to promote and extend the services to the users of these platforms.
Apart from the data sharing with Facebook, the new ToS also sheds light on another feature. WhatsApp is likely working on some features that will help businesses get on to the app faster. The new features include collaborating with Facebook Companies to provide users with sponsored ads or content from the businesses.
It also notes that WhatsApp's information sharing with the other Facebook-owned companies will make sure the users on the platform will stay safe as it will remove dangerous activity, hate speech and abusive content. In this segment, WhatsApp admits that it will share details such as profile names, device details, personal phone numbers, businesses you interact with, and sponsored ads and content.
