WhatsApp Unveils Chat Lock for Linked Devices and Introduces Private Mentions for Status Updates
WhatsApp is addressing a privacy concern with its chat lock feature, thanks to a recent finding by WABetaInfo. Previously, locking chats only applied to the primary device. The new WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.24.8.4 update, available on Google Play Store, closes this loophole. Users can now secure their chats with a secret code across all linked devices, ensuring consistent privacy.
Enabling Chat Lock on Linked Devices Enabling Chat Lock on linked devices is simple. On the primary phone, users open WhatsApp, access the locked chats folder, and select Settings. Then, they can choose the "Secret Code" option, create a secret code, enter it for confirmation, and their chats will be secured across all devices.

Boosting Social Interaction with Private Mentions The WhatsApp beta for iOS (24.7.10.71) introduces "Add Private Mentions" to enhance social interaction (thanks to WABetaInfo again). Users can now mention specific contacts in their status updates. Whether mentioning someone in a photo, text, or wishing them well, the tagged contact receives a notification, fostering engagement. Importantly, these mentions are private, visible only to the mentioned person.

Looking Ahead: More Features on the Horizon Both the chat lock improvement and private mentions are currently in beta testing and are expected to roll out to all users after successful evaluation. Additionally, reports from WABetaInfo suggest WhatsApp is exploring features like picture-in-picture video playback and a function for finding similar channels, further enriching the user experience.

These upcoming features promise to bring increased security, improved privacy, and enhanced social interaction to the WhatsApp platform.
