WhatsApp Update Brings Native iPad Support, Better CarPlay Integration, PDF Editing, and Music Sharing

WhatsApp is rolling out a major update that adds native iPad account support alongside several new productivity and entertainment features. The latest update allows users to register WhatsApp directly on an iPad without linking it to an iPhone, while also introducing an improved interface for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enhanced PDF handling, and easier music sharing through Status.

The new features are rolling out globally and will be available to eligible users over the coming weeks.

WhatsApp’s Latest Update Introduces 4 Major Features

WhatsApp Finally Gets Standalone iPad Support

One of the biggest additions is native account registration on iPads. Until now, iPad users had to rely on companion mode, which required linking the tablet to an active smartphone.

With the latest update, users can set up WhatsApp directly on an iPad as a standalone device, eliminating the need to keep a primary phone connected. This effectively turns the iPad into an independent messaging device, allowing users to send messages, make calls, and access chats without relying on another device.

Redesigned Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Experience

WhatsApp is also upgrading its in-car experience with a redesigned interface for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The updated layout makes it easier to view recent conversations, access call history, manage contacts, and read incoming messages directly from the vehicle's infotainment display. The refreshed interface is designed to reduce distractions while making communication more convenient for drivers.

Adobe Integration Improves PDF Handling

WhatsApp has partnered with Adobe to improve document management across its mobile, desktop, and web apps.

Users can now open PDF files directly inside chats without downloading them first, making document sharing quicker and reducing device storage usage.

On WhatsApp Web and desktop, the integration also introduces basic PDF editing tools, allowing users to highlight text and add annotations using Adobe Acrobat technology. The feature is expected to be particularly useful for professionals who regularly collaborate using documents.

Share Apple Music and Spotify Songs to WhatsApp Status

The update also expands WhatsApp Status with direct music sharing.

Users can now share songs from Apple Music and Spotify directly to their Status without taking screenshots or manually copying links. The new integration offers a faster and cleaner way to recommend music to friends and contacts.

Rollout Timeline

Meta says the new features are being rolled out globally and will reach compatible devices in phases over the coming weeks. The latest additions reflect the company's continued focus on improving WhatsApp across tablets, cars, desktop platforms, and everyday social sharing.
