WhatsApp officially rolled out browser-based voice and video calling for WhatsApp Web on July 28, 2026, removing one of the platform's biggest limitations. Users can now make end-to-end encrypted voice and video calls directly from their web browser without downloading the desktop app.

How to Make Voice and Video Calls on WhatsApp Web

Using the new calling feature is simple. Follow these steps:

1. Open web.whatsapp.com on your preferred browser.
2. Scan the QR code using WhatsApp on your smartphone to log in.
3. Click on the new Calls tab in the left sidebar.
4. Select an existing contact or create a new call link.
5. Choose either the Voice Call or Video Call button.
6. Grant your browser permission to access your microphone and camera when prompted.
7. Once connected, you can use features like screen sharing, emoji reactions, and other in-call controls.

Modern Call Controls and Quality Improvements

Meta has also introduced Call Transfer, allowing users to seamlessly move an active call between devices. For example, you can start a call on your smartphone and continue it on your laptop without disconnecting.

For group conversations, WhatsApp now includes a Waiting Room feature. When joining via a call link, participants remain in a virtual lobby until the host approves their request, offering greater control over meetings.

The update also improves call quality with:
