Xbox Copilot for Gaming Beta Goes Live in the Xbox App on Android and iOS: Here’s How to Install

Microsoft has started testing a new AI assistant called Copilot for Gaming, aimed at Xbox players who want help during gameplay without cluttering their screen. Currently available as a beta feature in the Xbox mobile app, Copilot offers a second-screen experience that supports questions, suggestions, and account insights-all delivered via text or voice chat.

The feature is live for users in over 50 countries, including India, the U.S., Japan, Australia, and Singapore. It's available only in English for now and is limited to players aged 18 and above.

A Second-Screen Assistant for Players

Copilot for Gaming isn't built into your console just yet. Instead, it runs on your phone or tablet through the Xbox app, so it doesn't interfere with the game itself. Think of it as a companion that quietly sits on the side, ready to answer questions or provide suggestions while you play.

For example, you can ask for help when you're stuck in a game or want to know how to unlock an achievement. You can also ask about your play history, account status, or get recommendations for new games based on what you've played in the past.

The assistant responds based on a combination of your Xbox activity and public information pulled from Bing, which gives it a level of personalization that static FAQs or web searches often lack.

What It Can Do Right Now

In its current beta form, Copilot can handle a few useful tasks:

  • Provide in-game tips based on the title you're playing
  • Summarize your Xbox achievements or tell you your last unlocked badge
  • Recommend new games based on your preferences or history
  • Answer account-related questions, like Game Pass renewal or gamer score

You can either type your question or use voice commands. Example prompts include:

  • "What was my last achievement in Starfield?"
  • "Any horror games you recommend?"
  • "When does my Game Pass Ultimate renew?"
  • "I'm stuck on the Rougarou boss in South of Midnight-any tips?"

The goal seems to be utility without intrusion. You're not pulling up a guide on a web browser or pausing your game to scroll Reddit threads. You're just asking, and getting an answer while continuing to play.

What's Coming Next

This early version of Copilot is focused on chat-based assistance through the Xbox app, but Microsoft has more planned. Future updates could bring:

  • Voice-based interaction across platforms
  • Real-time coaching, such as pointing out mistakes in multiplayer matches
  • Integration into consoles and the Game Bar on Windows
  • Deeper personalization based on how you play
  • Support for more languages

How to Try It

If you're on Android, you can find the beta version of the Xbox app in the Google Play Store. iOS users don't have access just yet, but support is expected soon. Once installed, you can find Copilot in the app's "More Options" section.

Microsoft is actively encouraging users to send feedback during this beta period. You can do this directly in the app by rating Copilot's responses or reporting inaccuracies.
