You Can Now Add Music to WhatsApp Status Updates; How to Use It?

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets users add music to their status updates. This option is currently accessible to select beta testers. The new music button, located in the drawing editor, allows users to search for songs and incorporate chosen tracks into photos or videos shared as status updates.

Some beta testers have reported spotting this music feature in their status editor after updating to the latest beta version. This update is available for WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.2.5 on the Google Play Store. The attached screenshot from WABetaInfo shows how some beta testers are already exploring this new capability of adding music to their status updates.

How to Add Music to WhatsApp Status

Step 1: To add music, first choose a photo or video for your story.

Step 2: Next, locate the music button at the top and search for a song.

Step 3: After selecting a song, decide which part of it you want to use. For photo-based statuses, the music clip can last up to 15 seconds, while video-based content allows longer clips depending on the video's length.

Step 4: Once you've selected the specific part of the song, it will be integrated into your status update, making it more engaging and dynamic. When others view your status update, they will see the chosen song alongside your shared photo or video.

The new feature allows users to explore Meta's extensive music catalog within the drawing editor. This catalog is identical to what Instagram users access, enabling searches for favourite songs, artists, or trending tracks for inclusion in status updates.

Additionally, viewers of your status will have the chance to see the Instagram profile of the artist whose song is featured. This integration enhances user interaction by linking WhatsApp and Instagram profiles through shared musical content.

As noted, the new 'share music through status' feature is currently available to some beta testers in the latest version of WhatsApp for Android. It is expected to be rolled out to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
