You Can Now Share Your Screen on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been continuously introducing new features and updates, expanding its functionality beyond just messaging. Recent additions include audio chats, usernames, and a chat lock feature. The latest feature to join this list is the screen-sharing functionality, which is now being rolled out to beta testers on the Android platform.

To access this feature, Android beta testers must download and install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android, specifically version 2.23.11.19, from the Play Store.

WhatsApp Screen Sharing Feature

To utilize the screen-sharing feature, Android beta testers need to ensure they have the latest WhatsApp beta version installed on their devices. Once the update is installed, beta users will notice a new button for screen sharing located in the bottom tab, positioned right next to the toggle camera button.

Hold On To Your Horses

However, before users enthusiastically start sharing their screens, there is an important disclaimer to consider. WABetaInfo, a reliable source of WhatsApp updates, has shared a screenshot displaying a warning from WhatsApp.

According to this warning, if users choose to activate the screen-sharing feature, WhatsApp will have access to all the information visible on their screens or played from their devices during recording or casting. This includes sensitive information such as passwords, payment details, photos, messages, and even audio content.

It is important to note that this feature is only enabled when users explicitly consent to share their screen's content. Additionally, users retain complete control over the feature and can stop the transmission at any time, regardless of the ongoing recording. However, it is crucial to understand that while sharing the screen, everything displayed on it will be recorded and shared with the recipient.

Compatibility and Limitations

Users should be aware that this upcoming screen-sharing feature may not be available on older versions of Android, limiting its accessibility. Additionally, the feature will not function during large group calls. Moreover, if the recipient of the screen-sharing session is using an outdated version of the WhatsApp application, they may encounter difficulties in viewing the content shared by the user.

New Bottom Navigation Bar

Upon updating to the latest WhatsApp beta version, some users might notice a few minor changes related to the application's bottom navigation bar. Specifically, there has been a rearrangement of certain tabs within this navigation bar.

According to reports, the bottom navigation bar now consists of the following tabs for some WhatsApp users - Chats, Calls, Communities, and Status.

As of now, the screen-sharing feature is in the beta testing phase, with a gradual rollout to beta users. It is expected to become available to all users in a stable public update in the near future.
