YouTube Adds AI Brainstorming, Veo Video Creation, and Digital Gifts for Livestreams
YouTube has announced a major update for content creators, bringing a host of new AI-powered tools that are set to reshape video production on the platform. The announcement came at the Made on YouTube event in New York City, where the company showcased new features such as the ability to generate six-second Shorts clips from a simple text prompt, thanks to the integration of Google DeepMind's video model, Veo.
AI-Powered Six-Second Shorts Clips
YouTube's latest innovation in AI technology, Veo, will soon allow creators to generate six-second video clips for Shorts using only a text prompt. This capability builds on the success of YouTube's earlier feature, Dream Screen, which was introduced in 2023. Dream Screen enabled creators to produce AI-generated backgrounds for their videos, but with the integration of Veo, the functionality has been significantly upgraded.

Creators can now enter a text prompt into Dream Screen, which will generate four images based on the input. From there, Veo will animate one of the images into a fully-fledged six-second video clip at 1080p resolution. This new capability offers creators more flexibility and creative freedom in producing Shorts content, setting YouTube apart from competitors like OpenAI's Sora and Adobe's Firefly.
AI Tools to Streamline the Creative Process
In addition to the Veo integration, YouTube is expanding its AI-powered features within YouTube Studio. One of the most anticipated features is the Inspiration tab, where AI can help creators brainstorm video ideas, suggest titles, and even generate thumbnails and initial dialogue. This feature is designed to lower the barrier for new creators by streamlining the brainstorming and production process.

AI is also being used to enhance interactions between creators and viewers. The platform will allow creators to use AI-assisted replies in the comments section, making it easier to engage with audiences on a larger scale. The inclusion of AI-driven tools should help YouTube better compete with platforms like TikTok, which has seen rapid growth in the short-form content space.
YouTube Expands Language Support and Community Features
YouTube also announced an expansion of its automatic dubbing service, now supporting French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. This upgrade will help content creators reach a broader audience, with more languages expected to be added in the future. The platform is also testing a new "expressive speech" mode for dubbing, designed to preserve the creator's original tone and pitch, ensuring a more natural audio experience.
The Community feature, which allows creators to engage with their audience through posts, replies, and real-time interaction, is being rolled out to additional channels. This is part of YouTube's strategy to strengthen creator-viewer relationships and provide more interactive features on the platform.
New Ways for Viewers to Support Creators
In another move aimed at increasing creator-audience interaction, YouTube is launching a "Jewels" feature, similar to TikTok's digital gifts, which allows viewers to send digital tokens during livestreams. The feature will debut with vertical livestreams in the U.S. before expanding to other regions. This feature is designed to provide an additional revenue stream for creators while enhancing viewer engagement.
YouTube also revealed plans to expand its Hype feature to more markets, following successful pilots in Brazil, Turkey, and Taiwan. Hype allows users to show support for their favorite creators, with videos accumulating hype points being featured on a special leaderboard.
