YouTube Expands Auto Dubbing to 27 Languages, Adds Expressive Speech and Smart Filtering
YouTube has announced new updates to its auto dubbing tool, aiming to help videos travel across borders while still feeling local. The features open the system to more viewers and creators, add richer speech options, and give new controls over language choice, without affecting how original videos perform on the platform.
YouTube auto dubbing languages and expressive speech
The auto dubbing feature is now available to all users and supports an expanded set of 27 languages. During December, YouTube recorded more than 6 million daily viewers who each watched at least 10 minutes of auto dubbed content.

YouTube has also launched Expressive Speech for every channel in eight languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. This mode aims to reflect a creator’s original tone, emotion and energy more closely, so translated tracks sound less flat and robotic and feel nearer to natural speech heard in the source video.
YouTube auto dubbing preferences and lip sync tests
YouTube has added a Preferred Language setting aimed at the multilingual community and viewers who like hearing original audio. The platform already picks a default language based on watch history. With the new option, people can now state language preferences directly and decide whether to listen to the dubbed track or the creator’s first recording.
YouTube is also running tests on a Lip Sync pilot that gently aligns a speaker’s mouth movements with translated audio. The goal is to make dubbed clips feel closer to native videos, so viewers notice fewer distractions between what appears on-screen and the language track they choose to hear.
YouTube auto dubbing tools for creators
There are changes for creators as well. Automatic Smart Filtering now checks each video and can detect when auto dubbing is unsuitable, such as for music uploads or silent vlog formats, helping keep those videos authentic.
These updates show YouTube refining its auto dubbing tools for both sides of the platform, with viewers gaining more control over how they listen and creators getting safeguards and reach benefits. As the feature spreads across 27 languages, more stories from different regions can be watched comfortably.
