YouTube Kids App now allows Parents to Whitelist Channels

YouTube seems like to be deep in trouble in the US over illegally tracking the data related to the children and also showing objectionable content which was mixed along with some videos targeting young users.

As per some reports from the Beebom, it will require some expert solution along with human intervention similar to what the tech giant Google is planning to do with the YouTube Kids. The plan of actions comes after it the YouTube's algorithm was blamed for allowing disturbing, specifically gore-filled-videos, for a number of times over the last six months. Further, it is being reported that YouTube announced in a blog post, that to allow parents have a better insight and control over the content their child is watching. There are three new features that are being rolled out to the YouTube Kids app along with the web portal.

The first features for the YouTube Kids will now offer carefully curated playlist which is said to be compiled by a set trusted partners from various platforms ranging from arts& craft to sports, music and also online learning. The parents will also be able to select which channels or partners they trust by visiting the Profile Settings under My Kids menu.

The YouTube Kids app had the option of switching search off from a long time, now the feature is said to be updated in order to restrict suggestions also, with only those videos that are verified by a special team of YouTube Kids moderators which are visible. This, in turn, is said to limit the chances of kids watching disturbing content that the AI moderators might have skipped.

Also, YouTube has also given a word that it will launch a feature later this year, which will enable parents to selectively choose the videos or channels they want their kids to have access to. The new security settings, on the other hand, are optional and if the parents have no issue with whatever YouTube kids offer in its current form, and they can continue to enjoy the services.

Further on the blog, YouTube has not addressed the latest criticism and the controversies; however, it admits that the app requires improvement and that "no system is perfect". Further, it has also promised to rigorously analyze videos and improve the system over time by asking the parents to flag videos which they find inappropriate for the platform.
