Zomato's New Hack Slashes Food Prices by Nearly 50% — Here's How It Works!
Zomato has announced a new feature named Food Rescue, which allows users to grab cancelled orders at discounted prices for a limited time. The new feature is an initiative to minimize food wastage. Here's how it works.
Zomato Food Rescue Feature Explained
Now, canceled orders will pop up on the app for customers within a 3 km radius of the delivery partner carrying the order. Customers can get them at a discounted price, in their original untampered packaging, and receive them in just minutes. As seen in the teaser, if the original price is Rs 322, you can get it for just Rs 175, which is almost half.

However, this option will only be available for a few minutes to ensure the freshness of the food. However, the original customer and those in their immediate vicinity will not receive the option to claim the order.
The amount paid by the new customer will be shared with the original customer (if they made online payment) and with the restaurant partner. Zomato says they won't keep any proceeds (except the required government taxes).
Moreover, only select food items will be eligible for the Food Rescue service, with orders containing items sensitive to distances or temperature such as ice creams, shakes, smoothies, and certain perishable items excluded.
With this new feature, restaurant partners will continue to receive compensation for the original canceled order and a portion of the amount paid by the new customer if the order is claimed.
They can see Food Rescue orders in the ''Order history'' section on the Restaurant Partner app and in their Weekly Payout statement, in the 'Order Level' tab, Zomato says. Even restaurant partners who don't wish to participate can instantly opt out via their Restaurant partner app and dashboard.
However, delivery partners will be compensated fully for the entire trip, from the original pickup to the final drop-off at the new customer's location.
In the same, an X (formerly Twitter) user named Bhanu shared some suggestions to prevent misuse of this new Food Rescue feature which impressed Zomato's CEO Deepinder Goyal and he offered him a job saying, "All this and more already in place. Good thinking, by the way. Who are you and what do you do? Would love to know you more, and see if we can work together? :) DM me please if you wanna chat more."
