TomTom has officially launched its navigation app on Google Play Store. TomTom is considered to be the one of the best alternatives for Google Maps. Earlier this app was only available for iPhone devices and also for some specific HTC devices. It is now preparing to give a direct competition for Google Maps with its launch on Google Play Store, which will allow the app to be accessed by millions of Android users.
Reports suggest that the current version of the Android application will not be able to support all Android based devices. Some of the users have reported that the app is working fine in Nexus One but not in Galaxy Nexus. Company sources have responded that they are working to fix this issue. TomTom has developed different mapping applications which cover different regions from across the world. Sources suggest the app’s cost to range from $43 (approximately Rs.2,200) to $60 (approximately Rs.3,100).
Certain services of TomTom Navigation app will be provided only with in-app purchases. The services include HD Traffic and Camera alerts. Sources suggest that the Android app is restricted to Android devices having a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and 850 x 480 pixels resolutions as of now. The app will also have offline support. The application is designed to support features such as turn-by-turn guidance and reading out of street names for offering precise lane guidance. The app also includes ‘Live traffic information’.
Some of the key services offered by the application include;
