UIDAI Could Launch e-Aadhaar App in India Soon, Allowing You to Instantly Update Details

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is developing a new Aadhaar mobile application. This app aims to simplify the process of updating Aadhaar details, eliminating the need for physical centres. The beta version was launched in April, featuring improved security and user experience. Once fully implemented, users can easily update their name, address, or date of birth digitally.

Currently, updating Aadhaar details involves visiting the myAadhaar portal. Users must log in with their Aadhaar number and an OTP sent to their registered mobile number. They can then select "Update Address," enter new details, and upload valid proof like a passport or driving licence. A fee of Rs 50 is required, and users can track their request using the Service Request Number (SRN) on the UIDAI portal.

QR Code-Based Authentication

The upcoming app will include a QR code-based authentication feature. Users can scan this code using the app to securely share their Aadhaar ID directly from their phone. Additionally, Face ID authentication powered by AI will be available. Users will take a live selfie with their phone's camera, which the app will match against the photograph stored in the UIDAI database for identity verification.

For updates involving date of birth or mobile number changes, visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre is necessary. Required documents such as a birth certificate for date of birth or a bank passbook for mobile number changes must be presented. An operator at the centre will process these updates on behalf of the user.

How to update Aadhaar Details Right Now?

While the app is still under development, here's your current method to update Aadhaar details:

  1. Go to the My Aadhaar portal (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) and log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  2. Select "Update Address", enter your new details, and upload a valid proof of address-such as your passport or driving licence.
  3. Submit the form, pay the nominal fee (usually ₹50), and note the Service Request Number (SRN) displayed on-screen and sent via SMS. This SRN will help you track the status of your request via the UIDAI portal.

Virtual Aadhaar IDs and Secure Sharing

The app will also allow users to create virtual Aadhaar IDs and securely share their Aadhaar details. Accessing an Aadhaar PDF within seconds will be possible through this app. UIDAI assures that this process will be as smooth and quick as making a UPI payment.

This innovative approach by UIDAI signifies a shift towards digital convenience in identity verification processes. By integrating advanced features like QR code scanning and AI-powered Face ID authentication, it aims to enhance user experience while maintaining security standards.
