WhatsApp Web Could Finally Get Voice and Video Calling
For a long time, WhatsApp Web has felt slightly incomplete. It’s been great for replying to messages, sending files, and keeping chats in sync across devices, but one key feature has always been missing.

That may finally change.
WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out voice and video calling support on WhatsApp Web. The feature is currently available to a small group of beta users and could expand to more people in the coming days.
Calling directly from the browser
The update was first spotted by WABetaInfo, which reports that WhatsApp Web now supports one-to-one voice and video calls for select users. Until now, calling was limited to the Windows and macOS desktop apps, even though most other features worked perfectly fine in a browser.

With this change, users can reportedly start a call by opening a chat and tapping the call icon at the top right. There’s no need to install a separate desktop app, which makes WhatsApp Web far more practical for everyday use.
At this stage, the feature is said to support only individual chats. Group calling on WhatsApp Web has not been mentioned yet.
Encryption and screen sharing are included
According to the report, calls made through WhatsApp Web are end-to-end encrypted, just like calls on Android, iOS, and desktop apps. WhatsApp uses the Signal protocol to secure messages and calls, and that same protection reportedly applies here as well.
WhatsApp Web calling is also said to support screen sharing during video calls. That could make browser-based calls useful for quick presentations, walkthroughs, or collaborative discussions, especially for users who spend most of their time working inside a browser.
More WhatsApp features are on the way
Parent company Meta is reportedly working on additions such as member tags for group chats, a Close Friends option for Status updates, and even a premium subscription that could offer extra personalisation and productivity tools.
As with most WhatsApp updates, there’s no official timeline yet for when web calling will roll out widely. For now, it remains limited to beta users. But if testing goes smoothly, calling from the browser may soon become a standard part of WhatsApp Web.
