Leica is focusing on point and shoot camera segment off late. They launched V-Lux 40 recently, their latest addition to their digital compact camera line up.

This 15.3-megapixel camera features a CMOS sensor and an f/3.3–6.4 4.3–86 mmASPH lens with 20x zoom. It is more versatile in terms of supporting good range of focal lengths compared to similar models in the same range. It is quite easy to operate this camera as it has a touch enabled LCD screen.

The 3-inch screen has a resolution of 460,000 pixels. Instant capture and review is possible with simple one point clicks. It makes it quite user friendly. In addition to photo shooting, this camera enables video recording as well. This is quite a handy one for family use.

The camera is equipped with an integrated GPS module which will help you while travelling. Brilliant picture quality is assured in almost all various lighting scenarios. It has an ISO range up to ISO 3200. Another point worth mentioning is with 0.1 seconds auto focus, shooting of fast moving objects is also made easy in this new point and shoot camera.

Good quality in video recording and still images is ensured with features like image stabilizer and precision lenses. Both long distance photography as well as short distance photography is possible with same efficiency and you can switch between both modes by mere settings change. Continuous shooting is possible with Leica V-Lux 40 at a speed of up to 10 frames per second. In high speed mode, even 60 frames per second are made possible. Various creative modes are also offered by this camera including miniature, panorama and retro. This adds flexibility and versatility to the camera.

It comes with an integrated stereo microphone supported by electronic wind noise filter which offers a clear sound track on video recording. This is quite rare feature in point and shoot camera. There are options to upload the photos or videos directly to social networking sites as well.

The package also has a DVD containing important location maps which will be useful in travel photography. These maps can be transferred to the SD card; could be useful for those who are more serious photographers. It will hit the market in classic black. The availability and pricing of this Leica V-Lux 40 camera in India market is not known as of now.
