Canon Expands Mirrorless Range With EOS R50 V And New RF Lenses For Creators
Canon has introduced three new additions to its mirrorless ecosystem: the EOS R50 V, the RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ, and the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM.
The launches reflect Canon’s growing focus on hybrid creators, especially those producing vertical video, livestreams, or cinematic content on compact gear.

A Video-Centric Refresh: EOS R50 V
The EOS R50 V is a variant of the original R50 but reworked for creators who prioritize video. It features the same 24.2MP APS-C sensor, DIGIC X processor, and uncropped 4K 30p recording, but now comes in a simplified design tailored for vertical shooting. Notably, it removes the EVF and adds a dedicated livestream button, support for multi-cam streaming via Canon’s app, and auto-rotation for vertical content.
Audio also gets a boost, with 24-bit 4-channel input and enhanced noise reduction, making it more suitable for solo creators or mobile streaming setups.
First RF Power Zoom: RF-S 14-30mm PZ
Canon’s new RF-S 14-30mm lens marks its first RF mount lens with built-in power zoom. Designed for smooth video transitions, it supports remote zooming via Canon’s app or compatible accessories, and is compact enough (181g) for gimbal use. The lens includes 5-stop IS, extended to 7.5 stops with Coordinated IS, and a 0.15m close focusing distance, useful for product-focused or vlog-style content.
Ultra-Wide for Hybrids: RF 20mm F1.4L VCM
Canon also launched the RF 20mm F1.4L VCM, a wide prime aimed at both photographers and filmmakers. It features front and rear filter options, a clickless aperture ring, and minimal focus breathing, making it a hybrid-friendly lens. The new VCM (Voice Coil Motor) allows fast, silent autofocus, while BR optics and advanced coatings help suppress flare and chromatic aberrations—especially important for 8K or high-res video work.
