Canon Unveils Two New Mirrorless Cameras; EOS R8 and EOS R50

Canon India has introduced two new mirrorless cameras, the EOS R8 and the EOS R50. These new additions are poised to expand the company's mirrorless camera portfolio and serve as excellent offerings for specific demographics such as wedding professionals, serious amateurs, and photography enthusiasts.

Canon EOS R8: What's New?

The Canon EOS R8 is a new addition to Canon's full-frame camera lineup, and it is "designed for varied shooting situations," according to the company. This camera is aimed at users who want to shoot movies without cropping and are new to an interchangeable-lens camera. This camera is also marketed as an excellent tool for covering events, documentaries, and short films that require extensive post-production.

Canon EOS R8: Specifications

The Canon EOS R8 combines the portability of the EOS RP with capabilities such as Canon Log 3 and up to 40 fps continuous shooting, all of which were present in the Canon EOS R6 Mark II.

The EOS R8 includes Movie Digital IS (Image Stabilization), which performs tilt correction and 5-axis image stabilization while recording video. When combined with an optically stabilized lens, the camera performs better. There is also focus breathing support, which ensures that there are no distracting changes in the angle of view during focus transitions.

In terms of video quality, the EOS R8 features a new 24.2MP CMOS image sensor that supports 6K data and allows the user to capture high-quality cropless and oversampled 4K UHD footage at up to 60p. The EOS R8's focusing capabilities are provided by the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology found in the EOS R6 Mark II.

The EOS R8 has two recording modes: 10-bit 4:2:2 HDR (High Dynamic Range) PQ and Canon Log 3. Both options have advantages, such as HDR video recording or a flexible post-processing workflow, and can be used depending on the situation.

Canon EOS R50: What's New?

The Canon EOS R50 is an entry-level camera geared toward a younger audience. This camera is designed specifically for shooting vlogs, like fashion vlogs, or capturing social moments, like a family vacation. This camera is the successor to the EOS M50 Mark II and is marketed as noticeably better than its predecessor.

Canon EOS R50: Specifications

According to the company, the Canon EOS R50 has a 24.2MP APS-C Format Image Sensor that is three times larger than the 1-inch sensors found in smartphones. In low-light photography, this size difference results in sharper details and less noise. Users will also be able to take photos with natural bokeh.

The 24.2MP sensor also enables the camera to output uncropped 4K/30p video that is oversampled from 6K worth of data.

The camera is also lightweight, and because it is aimed at a younger audience, it is designed to be simple to use without a long learning curve. Canon is positioning the camera's lighter weight as a strength when vlogging necessitates a lot of travel.

The camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system has been enhanced with quick and automatic focus switching for the subject closest to the camera.

Finally, just like the EOS R8, there is support for focus breathing, which translates to a distraction-free change in the angle of view when shooting footage.
