Panasonic has announced the unveiling of the 6K, 4,992 x 3,744, 10-bit video resolution mode for its Lumix GH-5 model through a firmware update. The mirrorless camera was released in January 2017 and boasted 4K video recording capability. It also promised that the consumers will get the 6K 30fps video recording option although the prowess was limited to burst mode for stills.

Panasonic has also provided an upgrade to the 4K recording by offering full 4K, 10-bit option that compresses each frame at 400 Mbps data rate.

With the latest update, the Panasonic Lumix GH-5 camera gets 6K video recording option making it the only camera in the price segment with the prowess. Cameras that record 6K videos are far more expensive and may cost twice as much as the GH-5 does.

The Lumix GH-5 also gets an upgrade for 4K recording. The intra-frame 4K recording is also a great option considering the editing ease it offers. Normally cameras record 4K videos in inter-frame formats, such as H.264, MPEG-4 or XAVC. The format saves data by recording how one image differs from the next. Intra-frame compresses each file individually.

Panasonic has also improved autofocus for both stills photography and videos. It has also added a new hybrid log gamma shooting mode that can be read by certain types of HDR 4K TVs. Panasonic has announced that the latest firmware will be available at Panasonic's website at the end of September.
