Kobian Releases Mercury mTab 7: Price, Specs, Competition and More

As the crave for the budget-friendly Android ICS tablets among the Indian consumer-base is on the rise, Kobian, an India based computer peripheral manufacturer who sells handsets and tablets under the brand name Mercury has come up with a new tablet dubbed as Mercury mTab 7 priced at Rs 6,499.

At the launch event, Sushmita Das, Country Manager - India at Kobian Pte Ltd was quoted stating, "The price sensitive Indian market is always looking for low cost, feature rich tablets and here we introduce one in the sub 7k range. mTAB7 brings joy of tablet at low cost .The ultra-thin and light weight features allows one to carry mTAB7 easily anywhere and its sleek features allow it to comfortably land in your pockets. We are not preloading with applications as we believe that the customer has a wide array of choices and they can download and access Apps easily through the Wi-Fi support".

Display: mTab 7 packs a 7inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480.

Processor: The tablet is equipped with a 1.2GHz single-core ARM Cortex A8 processor.

Operating System: Being a budget tablet, mTab 7 is flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Storage: The tablet has 4GB internal memory, 512MB RAM and an external micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB.

Potential Rivals

Speaking of the potential rivals of the new Mercury tablet, there are many low cost Android ICS based devices to offer a stiff competition to the mTab 7. But when it comes to the pricing, Wicked Leak, an India based low cost tablet vendor has launched a couple of Android Jelly Bean tablets in India – Wammy Desire and Wammy Athena in the last week.

When it comes to specs of Wammy Desire, the tablet houses a 7 inch capacitive 5 point touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It is equipped with a 1.5GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor and 400 Mali Core GPU.

Moreover, Wammy Desire has a 0.3MP VGA front camera, 8GB internal storage, 1GB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable memory support.

In terms of connectivity, the tablet comes packed with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and 3G through dongle features. Wammy Desire is loaded with a 3,000 mAh Li-ion battery offering up to 6 hours backup.

On the pricing front, Wammy Desire is priced at Rs 6,499 as the Mercury mTab 7, however, the former comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, increased internal storage and a faster processor.
