Microsoft Surface Released Alongside Windows 8 OS: Is India Launch on the Cards?
Microsoft launched the Windows 8 OS across the globe at its Surface Reception event on Thursday alongside which the software giant also released its first official Windows 8 tablet – Microsoft Surface.
Initially unveiled in June 2012, Surface tablets are built to offer an ultimate stage for the software giant. Surface is designed to seamlessly transit between consumption and creation any without compromise and delivers the power of amazing software with Windows 8 and the feel of premium hardware bundled together.
Key Specs
Two models of Surface tablets were released by Microsoft – one based on ARM processor featuring Windows RT and the other with a third-generation Intel Core processor featuring Windows 8 Pro.
As far as the other specs are concerned the tablet will come equipped with a 10.6 inch ClearType high definition display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, 2GB RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two 720p cameras, micro SD card slot and USB 2.0 support. The Windows RT version will come in 32 GB and 64 GB versions while the Windows 8 Pro version will come in 64 GB and 128 GB versions.
Price & Availability
In terms of pricing, the 32GB version of Surface tablet is priced starting at $499 (approx. Rs 26,000) and the 64GB version of the same is priced at $699 (approx. Rs 37,000) without Touch Cover. The Touch Cover available in black, white, magenta, cyan and red color options retails at $210 (approx. Rs 11,500) and the Type Cover keyboard retails at $130 (approx. Rs 7,000).
Surface will be available online at http://www.microsoftstore.com in countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Surface India Launch Date
Microsoft has released the Surface tablet in about eight countries across the world as mentioned above. As of now, there is no word regarding the official release of the tablet in India nor on its pricing, however, analysts predict that Surface tablet could be released in India in November hinting that the India launch is on the cards.
In the meantime, consumers who like to order the Surface RT tablet prior to its official release can pre-order one from eBay.in, which lists a 32GB Surface RT tablet for a price of Rs 38,490.
Please note:India was not in the list of eight countries in which Microsoft has opened pre-oders. Further, the pre-order on the eBay India site is for the base 32GB model, which comes without the Touch Cover.
