Microsoft Surface RT: Qualcomm Powered New Version Is Expected Soon

Within a year, Microsoft is counted among the top five global tablet players with 1.8 % share, as per research firm IDC. The Windows RT version has more negatives than any positive points. Recently, Microsoft has announced to discount Surface RT tablet. The device maker will sell the device to educational institutions at just $200( Rs. 11,744).

Now thin same week, Bloomberg has come out with a new report saying that the next-gen Surface RT tablet could arrive with Qualcomm processor. The first-gen Surface RT is powered by Nvidia Tegra chipset. However, Microsoft keeps building Surface RT tablets with Tegra chipset. It is said that the new initiative would help Microsoft to sell more Surface RT tablets. The software giant is not shunning away from Windows RT. The tech vendor will soon add Outlook e-mail and calendar support.

The Surface RT does not support high speed 3G / 4G LTE connectivity. Whereas Apple gives you an option to choose either a 3GB enabled iPad Or Wi-Fi only version. Other big worry with Windows RT is that you cannot run traditional Windows programs.

The RT version of Surface runs on ARM processor which worked against the device. Consumers were hoping to see Intel inside. Another problem with Surface RT is its price, which haunted many to purchase iPad instead. There is also availability issue with Surface tablets. Microsoft has its R&D labs in India still the Surface tablets are nowhere to be seen in the country. Even the accessories (Touch Cover / Type Cover) are priced on a higher side.

Back in April there was a rumor of next-gen Surface tablet. The Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft is again working on a 7-inch tablet, which could be a cheaper version of Surface RT. If the company is working on a cheaper version then in the coming days we will come to know. Stay tuned to GizBot.
