Apple M4 Pro, M4 Max Chips Announced with Thunderbolt 5 and Improved Performance: Features, Specifications
Apple has introduced the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, expanding its silicon lineup alongside the M4. These processors are crafted using advanced second-generation 3-nanometer technology, enhancing both performance and energy efficiency.
The M4 series boasts the fastest CPU core globally, setting new standards in single-threaded and multithreaded performances. Additionally, the GPUs have been significantly upgraded, featuring faster cores and a ray-tracing engine that is twice as fast as previous versions.

M4 Pro, M4 Max Chips Specifications
The M4 chip caters to a diverse range of users, from entrepreneurs to creators. It features up to a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, offering up to 1.8 times faster performance than its predecessor, the M1. This makes tasks like photo editing and AAA gaming smoother and more efficient. The M4 supports up to 32GB of unified memory with a higher bandwidth of 120GB/s. It also enhances display capabilities by supporting two external displays and includes up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The M4 Pro chip is designed for professionals with demanding workflows. It features a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, delivering performances up to 1.9 times faster than the M1 Pro. This chip significantly outpaces the latest AI PC chips in speed. With up to 64GB of unified memory and a memory bandwidth of 273GB/s, the M4 Pro excels in AI, video, and large data processing tasks. Thunderbolt 5 support allows data transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s.

The pinnacle of this new chip series is the M4 Max, tailored for intensive professional workloads. It offers up to a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, providing performances up to 2.2 times faster than the M1 Max and up to four times faster than recent AI PC chips. Supporting up to 128GB of unified memory with a bandwidth of 546GB/s, it is ideal for real-time video de-noising and interacting with vast language models.
M4 Series Innovations in Connectivity
The introduction of Thunderbolt 5 with the M4 Pro and M4 Max marks a first for Mac computers. This advancement comes alongside notable increases in unified memory bandwidth-up to 75% more than previous models. Enhanced Neural Engines and machine learning accelerators make these chips particularly adept at handling advanced AI workloads while supporting Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is built into the M4 series, leveraging powerful generative models and privacy protections to enhance user productivity. This suite includes Writing Tools for text refinement, an improved Siri for voice and typed requests, along with creative features like Image Playground and Genmoji.
Environmental Considerations
These advancements align with Apple's environmental goals by enabling the new MacBook Pro lineup to offer up to 24 hours of battery life while reducing overall energy consumption. Apple aims for carbon neutrality across its entire carbon footprint by 2030, building on its current carbon-neutral status for global corporate operations.
Apple's commitment extends beyond performance enhancements; it focuses on privacy through on-device processing while offering server-based models for complex tasks without compromising user data.
