Apple offering free battery replacement for old MacBook Pros
Apple has announced that the battery replacement program for some selected non-Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pro is free of cost and owns won't have to spend anything for batteries.
Cupertino tech giant Apple has announced that the company is rolling out a battery replacement campaign for some selected non-Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pro. The company has said that there is some component failure in the built-in batteries of some limited number of MacBook Pros.
Apple has announced that the battery replacement program is free of cost and owns won't have to spend anything for batteries. Apple said, "the flaw that has been reported in some 13-inch MacBook Pros without Touch Bars, is not a safety issue."
The company on its support forum posted a note which says that the issue is with a small number of MacBook Pros manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017. However, the company didn't disclose the exact number of MacBooks which are been affected by the battery issue.
Apple has posted details about the eligibility criteria for the replacement program on its support forum. According to the post, "Use the serial number checker below to see if your device qualifies for this program. If your 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) has an eligible serial number, Apple will replace the battery, free of charge."
In the forum post, the company has mentioned clearly the program will not extend the standard warranty coverage of the device. Moreover, if you have already paid for a battery replacement, then you can let the company know for a refund. The program will be valid for 5 years from the release of the 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar).
Apple noted that the MacBook Pro will be examined before going through any service, to verify that it is eligible for the program or not. Apple service centre will take 3-5 days for replacing the battery. So before sending the device to the services centre, it's always better to back up all your data.
In addition, Apple also notes that "if your 13-inch MacBook Pro has any damage which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair."
