Intel Launches Core Ultra 200HX Plus Series: New Chips Target Gaming And Creator Laptops
Intel has introduced its new Core Ultra 200HX Plus series mobile processors, adding two high-performance options to its Core Ultra 200 lineup. The new chips, the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus, are aimed at gaming laptops, creator systems, and workstation-focused devices.

The company says these processors are designed to handle advanced gaming, streaming, and content creation workloads, while also bringing a few architectural changes and new features into the mix.
New Chips And Performance Improvements
At the top of the stack is the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus. According to Intel’s shared figures, it delivers up to 8% faster gaming performance compared to the previous Core Ultra 9 285HX. Single-thread performance is also said to improve by up to 7%.
For users coming from older hardware, the jump could be more noticeable. Intel claims up to 62% faster gaming performance and up to 30% faster single-thread performance compared to the Core i9-12900HX, based on its internal testing.
These gains are supported by higher die-to-die frequencies, with up to a 900MHz boost compared to earlier chips in the same family. This is meant to improve communication between components like the CPU and memory controller, which can help reduce latency and improve responsiveness in games.
A New Optimization Approach
One of the key additions in this series is support for the Intel Binary Optimization Tool. Intel describes this as a binary translation layer optimization feature designed to improve performance in select games.
The idea here is to increase instructions per cycle and improve how workloads run, even if they were originally optimized for different hardware or earlier architectures. This feature is available through Intel’s Application Optimization settings and requires compatible configurations.
Connectivity And Platform Features
The Core Ultra 200HX Plus series also brings updated connectivity support. This includes:
- Intel Wi-Fi 7 support (5 Gig)
- Bluetooth 5.4
- Thunderbolt 5 with up to 80 Gbps bidirectional bandwidth
These additions are meant to support tasks like high-speed file transfers, 8K media streaming, and connecting multiple peripherals through a single port.
Laptops And Availability
Systems powered by the new Core Ultra 200HX Plus processors are already starting to launch through various OEM partners, with broader availability expected throughout the year.
Some of the devices announced include gaming and performance laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell (Alienware), HP, Lenovo, MSI, Razer, and others. Models such as the Predator Helios series, ROG Strix SCAR 18, Alienware Area-51 laptops, and Lenovo Legion lineup are among the first to feature these chips.
