Microsoft Windows 10 S users can now upgrade to Windows 10 Home for free
Microsoft has not set any time limit and Microsoft Windows 10 S users can upgrade to Windows 10 Home at any given time or when they feel the need to.
Microsoft will now allow Windows 10 S users to upgrade to the full version of Windows 10 free of charge. However, Microsoft is not doing away with the 10 S version but instead, the company is making Windows 10 S as a separate mode that will run on top of either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro. Windows Central, notes that Microsoft has decided to convert Windows 10 S from a stand-alone SKU to a separate mode that will work in tandem with all the other versions.
Having said that, the good news here is that Windows 10 S users will not have to worry about any deadlines before the offer expires. Microsoft has not set any time limit and users can upgrade at any time or when they feel the need to. Previously, Windows 10 S users who wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro had to pay 49$ after the free period was stopped by Microsoft.
In any case with the new announcement, it is a welcome move for Windows 10 S users. They will be able to switch or upgrade to a more capable operating system, no matter how much time has passed since they first got their device. Besides, Microsoft is changing the way how users perform upgrades.
Meanwhile, from what we have heard and seen so far Windows 10 S has not been doing well in the market. Even though Windows 10 S is the fastest and most secure version of Windows 10, the drawback has mostly been in terms of accessibility of apps. Users were allowed to use apps available only from the Microsoft Store. And Microsoft Store does not always have all the needed apps.
Further installing Win32 software was not allowed. This was some of the major limitations in Windows 10 S. While the OS has been particularly aimed at users who are looking for more control over the software running on their devices, some users have been looking to upgrade to another version.
Well, Microsoft seems to have taken the users' need into consideration and announced the upgrade offer for them. However, it will be interesting to see how many systems will now run on Windows 10 S Mode.
