Reliance Jio's JioPC is a computer-as-a-subscription service designed to make computing accessible without requiring users to purchase a new PC. It provides a cloud-based computing environment that can be accessed through an existing laptop or desktop, a compatible TV connected to a Jio Set-top box, or a web browser.

The service targets students, educational institutions and users who need a computer for online learning, productivity and everyday tasks without making a large upfront investment.

JioPC Price and Subscription Plans in India

JioPC is available in two configurations. The standard plan offers 8GB RAM and 500GB storage, while JioPC Ultra comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

The subscription prices are as follows:

• JioPC: Rs. 1,000 for two months, Rs. 2,000 for five months and Rs. 4,000 for 10+2 months.
• JioPC Ultra: Rs. 1,200 for two months, Rs. 2,500 for five months and Rs. 5,000 for 10+2 months.

Eligible JioHome customers can redeem a Rs. 100-per-month Jio Home voucher against their broadband bill.

How Does JioPC Work?

Unlike a traditional computer, JioPC provides access to computing resources through the cloud. Users can access their subscribed environment using compatible devices they already own, provided they have a reliable internet connection.

The service uses an Ubuntu-based Linux interface and includes LibreOffice for documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Users can also access web applications such as Microsoft 365 through supported browsers, alongside tools such as Adobe Express.

JioPC Features and Use Cases

Jio says JioPC supports online classes, research, coding, design, educational applications and generative AI tools. It could be useful for students completing assignments, households handling everyday productivity tasks and users who need occasional access to a computer.

The service offers configurable computing resources through subscription plans, allowing users to choose between the standard and Ultra configurations based on their memory and storage requirements.

However, performance will depend on internet connectivity and application requirements. Users who need demanding gaming, specialised professional software or offline computing may still prefer a conventional PC.

JioPC Security and Data Storage

According to Jio, user data is stored in cloud storage supported by enterprise-grade infrastructure and disaster recovery capabilities. The service also uses a Zero Trust security model.

Since data is stored remotely rather than solely on the local device, damage to a laptop or set-top box should not necessarily result in the loss of cloud-stored files. Users should still protect their account credentials and review the service's data privacy and recovery policies.
