The Asus Transformer Prime and the Acer Iconia 200 Android Tablet Computers Compared
Two tablets whose respective launches have been hotly anticipated and gotten everyone’s tongues wagging are Asus Transformer Prime and Acer Iconia A200.
Asus Transformer has already proven to be a revolutionary Android tablet. So it is no wonder that its successor, Asus Transformer Prime has generated so much interest. Sources say that it will finally be launched on December 16. Acer Iconia Tab A200 too was always in the rumor mill but what really upped the chatter was a short promotional video that was seen online.
Asus Transformer Prime is undoubtedly the sleeker of the two. Photos released reveal a chrome-like surface and build with, you guessed it, a detachable keyboard provided as an option just like the Transformer.
It is also really thin and Asus had revealed its desire to have an 8.35mm thickness for its tablet, making it even thinner than the iPad 2. Acer Iconia Tab A200 is attractive too. It comes with attractive colour options of metallic red and black titanium. A200 is the successor to the A500, and weighs only 1.5 pounds.
Asus Transformer Prime offers connectivity options of mini HDMI port and microSD card. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities are also on offer, and Asus is of course expected to launch 3G capabilities for the Transformer Prime later. Acer Iconia A200 also features microSD card slot along with a USB port. Online chatting and video capture are facilitated by the standard webcam onboard.
A200 is also expected to have the Acer-developed Clear.fi software that makes it possible for users to view and link tablet content on PC, media players, televisions, Smartphones, etc.
While Asus Transformer Prime will be powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, Acer Iconia A200 is expected to carry on with Nvidia Tegra 2. Nvidia claims Tegra 3 will have maximum symmetric performance of 2GHz without consuming too much power.
The Transformer Prime model is initially equipped with 16 GB of internal storage with RAM of 1GB. It seems Acer Iconia A200 will also have 1GB RAM.
Display is another area where Asus Transformer Prime is really expected to excel. It boasts 1280 x 800-pixel resolution and 10.1-inch IPS display with vibrant colours really enlivening the screen. It is also expected to help users read minute text easily. Acer Iconia A200 also features 1280x800-pixel screen resolution.
Asus Transformer Prime is expected to be one of the first tablets with download available for the Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, the operating system conceived with both tablets and Smartphones in mind. Acer Iconia A200 appears, from the promo video, to be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS.
Both Asus Transformer Prime and Acer Iconia 200 seem to be hot products, with Transformer Prime being slightly ahead in style, performance and specs.
This reflects on the expected prices too. Transformer Prime with 500 GB is expected to have a price tag of around Rs. 25,000 while Acer Iconia Tab A200, to be officially launched in January 2012, is expected to be priced slightly lesser than price of Asus model in India.
