Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Just Got a Price Cut, and the Timing Is Interesting

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has barely had time to settle into Samsung's lineup, and it is already considerably cheaper than it was at launch. Flipkart is currently selling the 256GB version of Samsung's latest foldable for ₹1,64,999, which is ₹15,000 below its ₹1,79,999 India launch price.

And the timing is a little strange. Usually, seeing a brand-new foldable lose ₹15,000 this quickly would make you wonder whether it isn't selling particularly well. Except recent reports suggest the Fold 8 is having almost the opposite problem.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for ₹1,79,999 in India. Right now, Flipkart has the same configuration listed at ₹1,64,999, so you're saving a straight ₹15,000 before doing anything with exchange offers or cards.

Flipkart does show a crossed-out MRP of ₹1,84,999, but Samsung's official launch price is the better number to use when calculating the actual saving.

There is another ₹4,000 bank discount showing on Flipkart at the time of writing, which brings the price down to ₹1,60,999 for eligible buyers. An exchange offer of up to ₹65,150 is also listed, although that's naturally going to depend entirely on what phone you're handing over.

The Odd Part Is That Samsung Apparently Can't Make Enough of Z Fold 8

A recent report from ZDNet Korea claims Samsung is dealing with stronger-than-expected demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and is trying to increase production. The bottleneck is reportedly a Display Driver IC, or DDI, used for the Fold 8's screen. Samsung's supplier is apparently already close to capacity, leaving the company looking for other ways to squeeze out more units.

Things have apparently reached the point where Samsung is reallocating DDI production capacity that had been secured for devices coming in 2027 to help with Fold 8 production instead. To be clear, Samsung isn't pulling chips out of a Galaxy S27 warehouse somewhere and stuffing them into Fold 8s. These components are device-specific. It is the production capacity and future allocation that's reportedly being shuffled around.

Samsung had already hinted that demand was healthy. When the Fold 8 series went on sale in August, the company said pre-orders for its latest Galaxy Z devices were up more than 30% over the previous generation.

Should You Buy the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at ₹1,64,999?

₹1,64,999 is still an enormous amount of money for a smartphone, so this isn't suddenly a bargain-bin Fold. But anyone already considering buying the Fold 8 now has an easier decision than they did at launch.

This generation was a fairly meaningful step forward for Samsung's foldable rather than another tiny year-on-year refresh. The Fold 8 weighs 201 grams, measures just 4.5mm when unfolded, gets a 7.6-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display, and runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

More importantly, you're not waiting six or eight months after launch to get the discount. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 only went on sale on August 7, meaning we're seeing a ₹15,000 drop roughly a month into its life.
