Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype Launched with V8s Motor, 1548hp: More Powerful Than Bugatti Chiron?

Xiaomi recently hosted its most significant event of the year, unveiling several new devices. However, the highlight was the introduction of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype by CEO Lei Jun. This high-performance electric vehicle (EV) is an upgraded version of the Xiaomi SU7 Max, featuring advanced V8s electric motors.

The SU7 Ultra boasts a striking lightning-yellow finish and an aggressive design. A low front spoiler channels air through the hood, while extended side skirts smooth airflow. An oversized rear wing generates additional downforce, enhancing stability at high speeds.

Powerful Electric Motors

At the heart of the Ultra is Xiaomi's HyperEngine V8s electric motor. This motor delivers 578 horsepower, a peak torque of 635 Nm, and a maximum speed of 27,200 rpm. However, a single motor isn't sufficient for this vehicle's performance claims.

The SU7 Ultra Prototype features three electric motors: two V8S and one V6S. Together, they produce a combined output of 1,548 hp, surpassing models like Lucid Air Sapphire and Zeekr 001 FR. This power exceeds that of the Tesla Model S Plaid by nearly 52%. For perspective, the Bugatti Chiron produces 1479 bhp.

Innovative Battery Technology

To harness this power, the Ultra uses the world's first Kirin 2 battery, developed in collaboration with CATL. This 897V battery pack provides up to 1,330 kW of discharge power and maintains over 800 kW even at 20% state of charge (SoC).

When depleted, this battery can be recharged at rates of 5.2C, allowing it to recharge in under 12 minutes. Assuming it has a similar capacity to other SU7 models at 101 kWh, it supports charging at over 520 kW.

Lightweight Construction

The SU7 Ultra's body panels are made entirely from carbon fibre, reducing its weight to 1,900 kg-300 kg lighter than the standard SU7. This lightweight construction contributes to its impressive performance metrics. The vehicle accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 5.96 seconds. Its top speed exceeds 350 km/h.

Advanced Braking System

To manage this immense power, the Ultra is equipped with AP Racing six-piston forged fixed calipers and race pads on both front and rear brakes. These brakes can withstand temperatures over 800 degrees Celsius and work with motor energy recovery systems to achieve deceleration forces exceeding 2.36G. This setup results in a zero-to-hundred braking distance of only 25 meters.

Xiaomi's Future EV Plans

Xiaomi aims for the SU7 Ultra Prototype to break the Nurburgring non-production lap record in October this year. The company also plans to challenge the production lap record in 2025, indicating that a road-legal version is forthcoming. This ambitious project showcases Xiaomi's commitment to pushing boundaries in EV technology and performance.
