Lenovo Mirage Solo Daydream VR headset and Mirage Camera announced at CES 2018
At the ongoing CES 2018 tech show, Lenovo announced the Mirage Solo standalone Daydream VR headset and the Mirage VR streaming camera. As it is a standalone VR headset, the Mirage Solo can function even without a smartphone.
Lenovo's Mirage Solo standalone Daydream VR headset features a 5.5-inch QHD display and makes use of the Snapdragon 835 VR platform. There is 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space on board. This is the first VR headset to make use of the complete potential of WorldSensr, a mobile tracking technology on Daydream platform. This technology will let you move around in the virtual space giving you a feeling that you are leaning, ducking or dodging.
This standalone headset has a field of view of 110 degrees and features a 4000mAh battery that is touted to last up to seven hours on a single charge. The Mirage Solo provides access to all the content in the Daydream catalog including over 250 apps such as Photos, YouTube, Expeditions, and Street View.
Besides the Lenovo Mirage Solo VR, the company has also come up with the Mirage Camera. This is a point and shoot camera that is designed to live stream 180-degree VR videos. There are two 13MP fisheye cameras capable of recording super-wide-angle 3D videos. These videos and photos can be stored in the internal storage of the Lenovo Mirage Camera. Notably, this camera has 16GB default storage space that can be expanded further using a microSD card. These two cameras can capture stereoscopic images and also shoot 4K videos at 30 fps. The videos can be streamed on YouTube as well.
The Mirage Camera features a 2.2-inch touchscreen display at its rear. There is a screw for tripods, a shutter button, a power button, and a function button to toggle between photo, video and live streaming as well. Users can watch the content captured on this camera on their smartphone using the iOS or Android companion app. There is a USB Type-C port too on board.
The exact pricing of these products has not been revealed by the company. However, Lenovo claims that the Mirage Solo will be priced below $400 (approx. Rs. 25,000) and the Mirage Camera will be priced around $300 (approx. Rs. 19,000). Both the Lenovo products will start shipping sometime in the second half of this year.
