MSI Unveils Claw 8 AI Plus: A Handheld Gaming PC with Intel's New Lunar Lake Processor
MSI has announced the Claw 8 AI Plus, the successor to its first-generation Claw handheld gaming PC, at Computex 2024. This new iteration aims to address some of the criticisms faced by the original model, particularly regarding its performance.
Powered by Intel's Lunar Lake
The key highlight of the Claw 8 AI Plus is the integration of Intel's yet-to-be-released Lunar Lake processor. According to MSI, this makes the Claw 8 AI Plus the "world's first gaming handheld" with this chip. While specific details about the Lunar Lake's performance are yet to be revealed, it promises improved efficiency compared to the previous generation.

Improved Display and Battery
The Claw 8 AI Plus features an 8-inch Full HD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology. This should offer a smooth and tear-free gaming experience. Additionally, reports suggest the Claw 8 AI Plus will boast a larger battery, potentially reaching 80Wh, putting it on par with competitor devices like the Asus ROG Ally X.
Other Upgrades and Features
Based on user feedback, MSI has addressed some shortcomings of the original Claw. The Claw 8 AI Plus features an additional USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4 capabilities for faster data transfer and charging. The company has also improved the tactile feel of the LB and RB buttons for better ergonomics during gameplay. For a more convenient charging experience, the Claw 8 AI Plus will come with a lighter wall-mounted charger.
Limited Edition Claw x Fallout Collaboration
Alongside the Claw 8 AI Plus, MSI announced a collaboration with Bethesda for a limited-edition Claw x Fallout co-branded handheld. This special edition will feature a 7-inch display and a design inspired by the post-apocalyptic world of the Fallout franchise, including elements like vaults, Pip-Boys, and robots.
Pricing and Availability
MSI has not yet revealed pricing or a specific release date for the Claw 8 AI Plus. However, with Intel's Lunar Lake processors expected to launch in Q3 2024 with wider availability in Q4 2024, we can expect more details about the Claw 8 AI Plus in the coming months.
